A Brief Description of the Third International Sufi Conference held in March 9-10, 2012 under the auspices of Maizbhandari Academy at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh, Chittagong.
First Day: March 9, 2012
The Third International Sufi Conference was held in the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh, Chittagong on 9th and 10th March, 2012. On 9th March (Friday) at 10 A. M., the flags of Bangladesh, Gausia Huq Manzil and Maizbhandari Academy were hoisted by Mr. Salahuddin Kashem Khan, Managing Director, A. K. Khan and Company Ltd. and Consul General, the Republic of Turkey, Alhaj Syed Mohammed Hasan (M.J.A.), Sajjadanashin, Gausia Huq Manzil, and Chairman of the Conference, Dr. M Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, President, Maizbhandari Academy, and Co-chairman of the Conference respectively and thus the Conference was inaugurated by Alhaj Syed Mohammad Hasan (M. J. A.). At 10-30 A.M. the Round Table Conference on “The Present State of Sufism, Materialism and Religious Harmony in the Contemporary
World: Issues, Challenges, Problems and Prospects in Light of Experiences of Different Countries” was held in BGMEA auditorium at Khulshi, Chittagong,Bangladesh under the chairmanship of Mr.Salahuddin Kashem Khan,Consul General, Republic of Turkey and Managing Director, A.K. Khan and Company Ltd. The Conference was attended by distinguished national and foreign scholars on Sufism and Islam. In the evening at 5P.M. the first seminar session was held in the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh and the session was presided over by Dr.M.Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, Professor of Economics, Chittagong University and President, Maizbhandari Academy. The welcome speech was delivered by Mr.A.Y.M.Jafar,Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the Conference. Mr. Manzur Alam, Honourable Mayor, Chittagong City Corporation, attended the session as Chief Guest. The central theme of the Conference was “Sufism and World Peace” and different local and foreign scholars namely, Dr. Dato Baharuddin, Professor of Islamic Thought and Civilization, IIUM of Malaysia, Dr.Allama Syed Shamimuddin Ahmad Monayemi, Professor of Oriental College, Patna, India; Dr.Fatik Salik, Director, Turkish Center in Dhaka; Dr.Ejiok, a Turkish Theologist; Dr.Mohammad Ibrahim Zain, and Dr. Noor Mohammad Osmani of IIUM of Malaysia; Dr.Mohammad Peyara, Professor, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University and Sajjadanashin ,Shahpur Darbar, Comilla; Mr. A.N.M.A. Momin, a veteran researcher on historical matters presented papers related to different aspects of the above theme. The speakers are of the opinion that there is no alternative to sufism for removing the prevailing socio-economic ,political and religious crises and establishing everlasting peace in the world. Sufism is the essence of Islam. Whateever is good and beautiful is sufism. Sufism makes people purified both inwardly and outwardly and thus makes the society free from all sorts of exploitation and injustice. Sufism helps people to achieve the nearness to God. It believes in universal equality, fraternity and brotherhood of the global mankind irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The Conference was followed by musical program(Sema Mahfil) and Moulud Sharif in honour of Prophet MUhammad (SAW) and Munanajat for the global mankind and the Muslim Ummah.
Second Day: March 10, 2012
The second session of the Conference was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury, Dean of Faculties, Premier University and Vice-President, Maizbhandari Academy. Mr. Salahuddin Kashem Khan, Consul General,the Republic of Turkey, and Managing Driector, A. K. Khan and Company Ltd., was present in the session as Chief Guest. The distinguished personalities like Alhaj Syed Mohammad Hasan Maizbhandari (M.J.A.), Sajjadanashin, Gausia Huq Mansil, Prof. Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam, Prof. Dr. Muin-ud-din Ahmad Khan, Prof. Dr. M. Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, President, Maizbhandari Academy, Alhaj Rezaul Ali Jashim Chowdhury, Jamal Ahmed Sikdar, Prof. A.Y.M. Jafar and Dr. Selim Jahangir, the veteran researcher on Maizbhandari Philosophy etc. were present as special guests in the conference. The distinguished scholars like Poet Isharaf Hossain, IAIS, Malaysia, Dr. Eric Winkel of IIUM, Malaysia; Dr. Ahmed Mahmud Abdullah Karima, Professor, Islamic Shari’ah Faculty, Al-Azhar University, Egypt; Dr. M. Shamer Ali, Mr. Mohammad Ohidul Alam, Dr. Jinbodi Bhikhu (Bikku), and Father Bishop Giban Gomez delivered valuable speech in the conference. Allama Mohammad Shaista Khan translated the speech (delivered in Urdu and Arabic) of the foreign scholars into Bangla.
The speakers opine that the concept of Sufism came from the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah and if we try to understand Sufism, we must go through the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah. Maizbhandari Philosophy which stresses upon unchained divine love and religious as well as judicial equality irrespective of caste, creed and religion may be regarded as the latest version of Sufism. Without the practice of Maizbhandari Philosophy,human welfare can not be maximized and human emancipation can not be achieved.The session was followed by musical program(Sema Mahfil)presented by reputed local and national singers and the Conference was declared closed with the Moulud Sharif in honour of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Akheri Munajat for the Global Humanity and the Muslim Ummah.
